Methods

There are many interesting methods for telling stories. The best way is the one that suits your audience.

I now have a book all about storytelling. It is called Simply Storytelling and can be ordered from the publishers at www.centralbooksuppliers.com.au Go to Products and put the title and author in the search box and click. You can also order it from a bookstore. Here is the ISBN  0 86458 810 0  (978-0-86458-810-4). You can read more about Simply Storytelling on the book page of my writers website www.helenevanswriter.com.au

If you are telling stories to adults, you will probably use only an expressive face, voice and, and gestures.

If your audience is of young children, you will capture their attention best if you have some aids or if you dramatise the story.

Most of my storytelling is to groups of pre-school children, so I have developed a number of methods for this age.

Here are the methods I use most:

  • Feltboard

  • Toys

  • Puppets

  • Dramatisation

  • Dolls
